The Silvertones

I had a rather amazing thing happen. I was trying to jog my memory about a band I played in

in HS, The SilverTones, and when

I googled it, I found an excerpt from

a book by Ann McCutchan,

Where's The Moon? It had a description of the group and its origins and had a photo from 1966. The picture was small and I couldn't really identify the players. She graciously sent me a copy of the photo and it was much larger and darned if I'm not in that photo!

Well, I did find that there is a Kindle version of Where's The Moon, and I bought that, but after further interacting with the author, Ann McCutchan, she sent me a hardback copy. I think the book was very well-written and

it certainly held my interest, but I think because I had lived there and then.

Some of the people I haven't interacted with since high school surfaced from the past and commented on the Facebook post.

Here's the photo Ann McCutchan sent me of The SilverTones, 1966.

That's her, midddle row, 2nd from left, face partially hidden.

I'm back row, 4th from L, the one all glasses and ears. Bob Bjork,

mentioned on another page is front 2nd from left. Mr. Miner is front R.

Here's what I remember. The band had already been going awhile

before I joined. It was a big band doing music from the 40's. I played trumpet. John Miner had kept the band going after he lost his son, whom

I never met, who had started it I guess. Mr. Miner paid for all the equip-

ment and sheet music and booked the gigs at venues along the beach. We played dances at the Officer's Club and other places. I don't think the Union liked us very much because we got paid. I'm going to re-read Ann's book to bone up on the details.
