The noise floor at these church coffeehouses is ridiculous.
I always assumed that it's because my performances aren't compelling
enough to hold the audience's attention, and this may be true to an
extent. This performance was at Hebrews Coffeehouse, an outreach
at The Bridge Church.
But I had the same problem back in the 80's at Koinonia Coffeehouse, at River Of Life Fellowship. I played there many times
and it was always the same. I will post a few of those old videos and
you'll be staggered by the noise. People are talking and eating and walking around. I guess it's impossible to get away with that much
activity and have a quiet recording. The times I played in bars was
no different, to be fair. More people are there to party than listen to
the music. Manners are left at the door.
I'm glad someone recorded this, even so, because I liked
the song and don't want to lose it in the sea of forgetfulness. I pict-
ured that impressionist painting by Georges Seurat, when I wrote
this, A Sunday on La Grande Jatte,1884. Take a look and then
listen to my song (what you can hear of it).
And for some reason, every time I see this painting, I think
of Kaley Barrack, I think because I photographed he and his then
fiancée, Amy, posing with an umbrella.
