Don Oja Dunaway, 2006
Don played at our church, River Of Life Fellowship, in the mid-
80's. His is a folk singer and, I suppose, a Christian, judging from the
material. He played at our coffeehouse and at Sunday morning service.
I still have his cassette tape, Sparrow. (I just realized that Pierce Pettis
recorded Sparrow on his album Moments, and Don recorded Pierce's
St. Paul's Song on Sparrow). And no, the label wasn't Sparrow Records.
So, when we went to St. Augustine in 2006, and stayed with my
sister Lindy, she took us into the city and went to the Milltop, which is
where Don performs. It was a strange thing because Don never sang a
single while we were there. Perhaps someone messed up his PA mix or something. It was very odd, since weren't there to eat, but to listen to his
music. He did give me three of his albums on home-burned CD's, because all I had was an old cassette from all those years earlier. Which
I just looked for and can't find now.
I saw Don on another visit to St. Augustine at a Claire Lynch Band / Michael Peter Smith concert. Don wrote a great song called Kennasaw Line, which Claire Lynch has recorded. I had a print I carried to the concert with me of a photo I had done the previous visit. I deliv-
ered it to him at the concert. He just happened to be there and sat down near us.
